Monument to fluorite mining in Moldavia

Fluorite was mined in Moldava from 1957 to 1994 in the Moldava mine by the Josef and Papoušek pit. Fluorite was mined as a raw material for the production of hydrofluoric acid and fluorine. It is used in the production of Teflon, Freon, enamels, fire extinguishers and toothpaste. Fluorite mining is commemorated by a mine cart at the bus stop near the former mine.
