In the period of the sixties to the seventies of the 19th century, the national liberation movement grew stronger in Moravská Ostrava, its main aim was the promotion of the Czech language. The efforts of this movement also resulted in the building of today's Jiří Myron Theater, which was built at the end of the 19th century as a building for the National House.
