It was built in memory of the heavy fighting in the spring of 1945. The fighting lasted from April 18 to 24. This battle at Ořechov then opened the way for the Red Army to liberate the then Moravian metropolis - Brno. 1446 soldiers of the Red Army are buried in the cemetery. The monument was unveiled in 1977. The sculptor Sylva Lacinová is the author of the sculptural part of the monumental Monument.
