Zaječí is located between the towns of Břeclav and Hustopeče, not far from the Nové Mlýny reservoir in the South Moravian region... The village was founded in the 13th century around 1222. Part of it was given as a dowry to the wife of Hartneid from Liechtenstein in 1385. In 1638, the village was annexed to the Lednice manor and the other part belonged to the Velkopavlovic estate.
