Nový Jičín - parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary

The original church was probably already built at the time of the foundation of the town, at least there is a surviving mention from 1366. Most likely, the partially wooden church burned down in 1503, then it was repaired and rebuilt into a three-nave Gothic church, however relatively small. The tower in front of its facade was built in 1587-1618, and in the 17th century it was raised to its current height of 66m. The baroque building of the church dates back to 1729-32 and was commissioned by the Jesuits from Olomouc.…
