The Novohradské mountains pass northwards into the Novohradské foothills. In our territory, it is divided into five sub-units.

The Kaplická brázda between Malša and Českokrumlovská Vrchovina (part of the Šumava foothills) is its westernmost part. It is a 5 - 12 km wide depression between Šumava and Novohradský hory. The highest point here is Věncová hora (651 m).
