 We go to the Ostrava ZOO, from where we go to the Ema heap. The heap is a conical dump of former Ostrava mines from the mid-19th century. These are millions of tons of mined tailings. The heap is still working, which is why puffs of gas are smoldering from it. The temperature inside the burning heap reaches up to 1500 °C. Thanks to the heat on the heap, thermophilic flora grows.
