The village was originally named Mezleč (from leči na game, as much as between leči, where game was treated, and this is also where the German designation of the village Mesletsch or Mezletsch comes from). Over the centuries, the current name was added to this name, which over time prevailed (toward the end of the 19th century), although the original name has not disappeared, but is locally used in the vernacular until today.
