The city walls
The construction of the Stone Walls from the 14th century was preceded by a wood-aluminum temporary structure. The walls, built from quarried stone of local origin (red sandstone), were renovated over the centuries and destroyed by war or fire disasters. They definitively lost their importance at the beginning of the 19th century and since then gradually disappeared as a building material, especially after the fire of 1861.
