The Jeseníky Mountains are not commonly known as a pond area, but the inhabitants of the Czech and Moravian lands have been building various dams and lakes since time immemorial, perhaps because we have no sea and the view of the water level is so soothing. Although the establishment of ponds peaked in the late Middle Ages or early modern times, in the 19th and 20th centuries a number of ponds disappeared (converted to agricultural land, built over, etc.).…
