In the 13th and 14th centuries, townspeople dug spaces for grain storage, wine and beer cellars under their houses, hidden from fire or the enemy. This created a long network of corridors that connected almost all the buildings inside the walls. The underground in Litoměřice is one of the most extensive in the Czech Republic.
