The village of Lipno with its castle is located 10 km east of Žatec.
The first mention of the village of Lipno appears in 1266. The local fortress was first documented in 1393, under Jaroslav of Opočno. During the Thirty Years' War, the fortress was devastated, and in this state it was bought in 1636 by Jan Oldřich from Bisingen, who had the fortress rebuilt around 1650 into an early Baroque castle.
