One of the two main spring streams of the Otava originates as the Zhůřecký potok on the eastern slope of Můstek near Železná Ruda at an altitude of 1.214 m. At Čeňkova Pila it joins the Vydra and from there their common stream is already known as the Otava.
The Křemelná stream is 30 km long. It drains an area of 172 square km.

The section from the confluence with the Prášilský stream to Rejštejn is used for boating purposes.
