Alum Lake

Kamencové lake is located on the northeastern edge of Chomutov, at an altitude of 337 m in Přemyslov Street. The lake is one of the largest lakes in the Czech Republic and thanks to the high content of alum in the water, it automatically prevents the growth of algae and cyanobacteria. It was created by the flooding of mines in which alum and sulfur were mined. The area of ​​the lake is 15,97 ha, the width is 240 m, the length is 676 m, the greatest depth is 3,4 m. The lake has no tributary, and the largest difference in level fluctuation was recorded as 16 cm. Both sandy and grassy beaches and well-maintained piers will ensure your comfort while sunbathing and swimming. Close to the beaches you will find changing rooms and showers or a separate nudist beach. For children there are slides, fun water attractions and a pirate playground. On Lake Kamencové you will also find table tennis, volleyball, netball courts, beach volleyball, boat and pedal boat rentals, and paddleboards. The water in the lake contains dissociated alum. Depending on the time of year and the intensity of precipitation, the water contains increased amounts of sulfates, chlorides, iron and aluminum. Because of its composition, the water in the lake is considered a cure for catarrh of the upper respiratory tract, women's diseases, gout, anemia, rheumatism, kidney diseases and acne.
