Humboldt.
Humpolec was created as a guard place in the middle of the border woods, where an important path leading from Prague to Moravia led. According to legend, the semi-mythical Gumpold stood at the birth of Humpolc, however, serious sources do not confirm this assumption and do not mention the name of the forefather of the town.
