At the beginning of the 18th century, a well-known patron of baroque art, Count František Antonín Špork, founded a large complex with a castle, a spa and a hospital near Dvor Králové nad Labem. Kuks is considered the "pearl of the Czech Baroque" and is known, for example, for its rich sculptural decoration from the workshop of the famous Matyáš Bernard Braun.
