Upper pond near Svitav
The ponds in the vicinity of Svitav were mainly created in the 16th century. Historians counted eleven of them in the entire pond system. One of them is Horní rybník on the northwestern edge of Svitav, which is fed by the river Svitava and its tributaries. The pond was founded by flooding the city's meadows in 1538 during the reign of Olomouc bishop Stanislav Thurz. Its original name was Black Pond.
