The town of Frýdek-Místek lies on the edge of the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy Mountains and is called the "Gateway of the Beskydy Mountains". It belongs to the cities that were created by the merger of two municipalities. The individual parts of the city are separated by the river Ostravice.
The vicinity of the Beskydy Mountains offers sporting activities on numerous hiking and cycling routes. Not far from the city is the Olešná reservoir with the possibility of swimming, fishing and water sports.
