In 1879, the then newly founded local history association decided to build a monument in the City Park in Česká Lípa to mark the anniversary of the silver wedding of Emperor Josef I. The monument was created from 52 stones that represented the geological peculiarities of Českolipsk. The foundation stone was a sandstone block from the former Berkovský castle.
