A Capuchin convent was founded in České Budějovice in 1614 at the initiative of Anna Tyrolská, the wife of Matthias Habsburg. Construction of monastery buildings and the baroque church of St. Anne took place in the years 1615 - 1621. The Capuchin brothers themselves built the church and the monastery on the site of several townspeople's houses that had previously been destroyed by fire.
