Česká Skalice is located in the Hradec Králové region, northeast of Hradec Králové. The railway line running from Hradec Králové through Česká Skalica and on to Náchod passes through the town. The city is built on both banks of the Úpa River. The Rozkoš Reservoir was built at the southeastern edge of the city.
