The Červené blato nature reserve stretches on the southwestern edge of the Třeboňsko PLA. The reserve was declared here already in 1953 to protect the natural plant cover. In 1973, the protected area was expanded from the original 39 to 331 ha.

The peatland was mined from 1774 to the beginning of the 20th century. At that time, a glass factory was established in nearby Jiříkov, which used peat for heating...
