The village of Branná is mentioned in historical records as early as 1366, when the Rožmberks bought it from the provost of Mělnice, Jan z Landštejn. To the south of the village lie two larger ponds Jamský and Ruda, built at the beginning of the 16th century by the pond owner Štěpánek Netolicky. The history of Branná was greatly influenced by the proximity of the town of Třeboně. The small distance to the lordship and the markets was advantageous.
